Originally referred to as the “Daytona Car,” the coupe officially earned its name while being built for the Daytona Race. These cars were built to provide a more aerodynamic Cobra, allowing Shelby American to successfully compete with Ferrari on the higher speed road courses. Shelby commissioned Peter Brock to design a Coupe body for the Cobra chassis. Dubbed the Daytona Coupe, the 20 mph faster Cobra made its debut in the 1964 season. In 1965 the Coupe won eight of the eleven races it entered, and it was also the first and only American made car to win the World Manufacturer’s Championship for Grand Touring Race cars. Only six original cars were built and are now worth over $7million Dollars.

This particular car is built by the Hi-Tech Automotive factory in Port Elizabeth who are one of the largest Specialised Auto manufacturing plants in the World. These cars are built under license by Caroll Shelby Licensing.

These cars are a modern interpretation of the real car from the 1960’s. It has been built as a right-hand drive version. It has the 9000 series embossed on the seats. Interior is leather and Alcantara. Full complement of Stewart Warner gauges. There is an air-conditioning system fitted as well as power windows and central locking.

The wheels are a modern version of the Halibrand knock offs and are 15 inch. Brakes are Wilwood. The engine is the Roush 427 ci (7 Liter) V8 with 8 Stack throttle body fuel injection. Transmission is the Tremec 5 speed. It has a Limited slip diff.

This is a pure driver’s car and best of all it is built in South Africa to an extremely high standard, it is unique as Hi Tech cars are all built for the USA market.
