This Volkswagen Citi Sport may retain the familiar shape of the much-loved Mk1, but beneath the surface it is anything but standard.

At the heart of the car is a 3.2-litre R32 V6 engine, identified by engine code BUB, paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. A performance exhaust allows the naturally aspirated V6 to deliver the deep, distinctive soundtrack for which these engines are known.

The chassis has been upgraded to match the increase in performance. The car is fitted with lowered suspension, front coilovers, a front strut brace, lower suspension brace and an additional rear brace. Larger front brakes have also been installed, while 17-inch alloy wheels complete the purposeful stance.

Inside, the cabin features black R-Line seats, adding a more modern and sporting feel while remaining in keeping with the understated exterior.

Finished in white, this Citi Sport has all the appeal of a proper sleeper. Its clean Mk1 appearance gives little away, but the R32 powerplant, upgraded chassis and aggressive V6 soundtrack ensure it is anything but ordinary.
