R1 395 000
The Ferrari 330 P4 race history. Ferrari’s Le Mans 24-hour race cars were unstoppable in the early 1960s, winning five straight races from 1960 to 1965. The 330 P4 ran in 1967 but did not finish. The Ford versus Ferrari had started and Ford dethroned Ferrari. Ferrari would only win Le Mans again in 2023
This particular car’s History
In 1986 an English car builder by the name of Lee Noble — now best known for his Ultima cars and, of course, sports cars such as the Noble M10 and M12 — designed and built the first replicas of the P4. He was fortunate enough to be allowed to take moulds from an original 1967 race car. Noble reproduced the P4’s lightweight tubular steel chassis, but instead of alloy body panels he fitted strengthened fibreglass for simplicity. Noble built as many as 50 replicas before selling the rights to Neil Forman, from NF Auto Developments, the engineer who made some of the replica’s suspension components.
The kit was imported from AJ Performance in the UK as a part complete body/ chassis unit and was assembled over a number of years by an SA company, ST Clair Developments. There is a tag in the engine compartment with the name of this builder.
There is a comprehensive file that is included with the car as well as numerous correspondence to and from Noble as well as NF Auto Developments in the UK. There are blueprint drawings as well as wiring diagrams and suspension and chassis drawings.
This car was first registered on 12/12/2007 as a Razzo by Kit Car Centre. The P4 had absolutely nothing to do with Kit Car Centre but their name etc was used as a way around to get the P4 legally road registered in South Africa. VIN is P4LNDA00176034.
The engine is a Peter Frost built 6.3L Chev engine with a Whipple Supercharger fitted. The cylinder heads are Brodix and headwork was done by Roger Taylor. The gearbox is a blueprinted G50-50 Porsche Turbo unit. Brakes are Willwood Grand Nationals.
