Built to Beat the Best – and Still Ready to Play
Few South African performance legends carry the same cult status as the Opel Kadett Superboss. Created as a Group N homologation special in the early ’90s, this was Opel’s answer to BMW’s 325iS, a fierce local rivalry that defined an era of South African motorsport.
Only 500 examples were ever built for the road to satisfy racing homologation rules. Each came fitted with a 2.0-litre 16-valve DOHC engine, tuned by Irmscher, with a Schrick camshaft profile, Promotec performance chip, and André Verwey’s locally designed limited-slip differential, a world first for a front-wheel-drive production car. Add in 15-inch Aluette alloys, rolled arches, 20mm lower suspension, and front brake cooling ducts, and you had a car that was born to dominate both track and street.
Inside, luxuries like aircon and power steering were left out in the name of performance, this was a driver’s car through and through. Even today, the Superboss feels raw, mechanical, and engaging in all the right ways.
This car will transport you straight back to your youth in the ’90s, and probably have you looking for a robot-to-robot dice before you know it. She still runs beautifully, with that unmistakable raspy growl that defined the era.
Authentic down to its “S” VIN prefix, confirming it as a genuine Superboss, this example presents in good overall condition. A proper slice of South African motoring history — one that still knows how to have fun.
