Description

The BMW E30 has always been loved for one simple reason: it feels right from behind the wheel. Compact dimensions, beautifully balanced handling and wonderfully direct steering make even an ordinary journey something to enjoy. The Baur TC2 adds open-air freedom to that unmistakable E30 driving experience.

When the E30 arrived in 1982, BMW did not yet offer a factory Cabriolet. To satisfy the demand for open-top motoring, BMW worked with renowned German coachbuilder Karosserie Baur to create the TC2. Its distinctive design retained the car’s structural roof frame while introducing removable and folding canvas sections.

This example is powered by BMW’s lively 1.8-litre engine and paired with a five-speed manual gearbox, the ideal combination for a driver who enjoys working through the gears and carrying momentum through the corners.

The clever Baur roof offers three configurations. Remove the targa panel for fresh air above the front seats, fold down the rear section for a more open experience, or lower both for full wind-in-your-hair motoring.

A total of 10,865 Baur models were produced for Europe, with a further 3,561 built in South Africa. Of these, only 2,377 were 318i models.

Remaining in standard condition, this TC2 offers an increasingly rare opportunity to enjoy an E30 as it was intended. It is light, mechanical and full of character, the kind of car that encourages you to take the longer road home. Easy enough to use every day, yet special enough to become your favourite weekend escape.
