Description

Ferrari 308 GTBi – Early-’80s Maranello Magic, Now with Fuel Injection

The Ferrari 308 GTBi is one of those early-’80s gems that hits the sweet spot: classic Pininfarina lines, a proper gated manual vibe, and just enough modernisation to make it a more usable, everyday-classic Ferrari.

For 1980, Ferrari introduced Bosch K-Jetronic mechanical fuel injection, and with it the name change to 308 GTBi. That injection setup was paired with Marelli MED 803A Digiplex electronic ignition, using dedicated ignition hardware per bank — a more refined, reliable evolution that still keeps the character very much intact.

Visually, the GTBi stayed true to the 308 GTB/GTS silhouette — clean, low, and unmistakably Ferrari. The key tell is the metric-sized wheel and tyre package, typically running Michelin TRX radial tyres, with 16-inch wheels on Michelin XWX offered as an option. Either way, it’s pure period-correct cool.

Add the 5-speed dogleg manual transmission and you’ve got the full analogue Ferrari experience: precise shifts, a proper connection to the road, and that unmistakable V8 soundtrack behind your head. Inside, the cabin is classic Ferrari — compact, driver-focused, and built around the business of driving, with just the right touch of Italian luxury.

A sharp, iconic shape with real mechanical pedigree, the 308 GTBi is a brilliant entry into vintage Ferrari ownership — and one that still feels special every time you open the door.
