A fine mid-19th century Irish longcase clock by James Anderson of Carrickfergus, c. 1830–1860.
The painted 14-inch dial features Roman numerals, a subsidiary seconds dial, and charming hand-painted floral spandrels. The dial is clearly signed “James Anderson, Garrick Fergus,” indicating manufacture in the historic County Antrim port town.
The richly figured mahogany case, with a rounded drum-top hood, turned hood pillars, and an arched trunk door, is typical of the Belfast and Carrickfergus provincial style. The eight-day weight-driven movement (likely rack striking on a bell) is characteristic of Irish craftsmanship of the period.
A handsome and authentic example of 19th-century Irish horology.
