A True Tale of Riches to Rags and Back Again
This 1952 Mercedes-Benz 220 W187 Sedan represents an important chapter in the marque’s post-war recovery. Introduced at the 1951 Frankfurt Motor Show, the W187 marked Mercedes-Benz’s return to luxury motoring and introduced a new 2.2-litre inline-six engine.
The early history of this particular car remains unknown, but its remarkable survival story began when it was discovered in a ditch on 11 November 1984. After being advertised in Landbouweekblad in March 1985, it was rescued by a dedicated new owner who spent many years carefully restoring it. The car was finally registered and returned to the road in 2021, with its restoration history included.
Finished in timeless black with a striking red interior, it retains the elegance and craftsmanship that made Mercedes-Benz a symbol of quality. Its smooth six-cylinder engine and column-shift manual gearbox deliver a wonderfully nostalgic driving experience.
With approximately 16,000 saloon models produced, this beautifully restored W187 offers far more than classic motoring. It is a rare survivor with a remarkable story of rescue, dedication and rebirth.
