The Subaru SVX, also known as the Alcyone SVX in certain markets, remains one of the most distinctive Japanese grand tourers of the 1990s. Produced from 1991 to 1996, it represented Subaru’s bold move into the luxury performance coupé market, bringing together unusual design, clever engineering and genuine long-distance touring ability.
This 1995 example is finished in White over a Black interior, giving the car a clean and understated appearance that allows its unique shape to do the talking. The SVX is instantly recognisable thanks to its aircraft-inspired glasshouse and partial-window-within-a-window design, a feature that made it stand apart when new and still gives it serious presence today.
Power comes from Subaru’s 3.3-litre flat-six engine, paired with an automatic transmission. Smooth, refined and well suited to grand touring, the SVX offered something very different from the usual performance coupés of its era. With Subaru’s engineering DNA and all-wheel-drive reputation behind it, the SVX was built as a comfortable, capable and confident long-distance machine.
Showing an indicated 131 981 km, this SVX is presented with Used paperwork status. What makes the model especially interesting locally is its rarity, with fewer than 16 believed to have been imported into South Africa.
Distinctive, rare and unmistakably 90s Subaru, the SVX is a proper modern classic for the collector who wants something different. It is not the obvious choice, and that is exactly what makes it so appealing.
