MAY MADNESS
Creative Rides is fast becoming synonymous with world-class auctions, and with the world going digital, our 4th Online Auction once again proved to be a great success.
With over 200 lots sourced from late estates and private collections across South Africa, the catalogue offered something for every type of collector. From oil paintings of Ayrton Senna, Fly Cars, and even kite surfing equipment, the variety was vast – but as always, the true stars of the show were the cars, coins, and watches.
Auction Highlights
- Coins: Several rare pieces went under the proverbial hammer, including a 1898 South Africa Penny from the Sammy Marks Collection.
- Watches: The highlight was a Cartier Calibre de Cartier Automatic, also going under the proverbial hammer after spirited bidding.
- Cars: Collectors had their pick from a diverse line-up that went under the proverbial hammer, including Alfa Romeos, Bentleys, Chevrolets, Fords, Mercedes-Benz, Porsches, and of course, much-loved Volkswagens.
A True Digital Auction Experience
The online-only format brought excitement right to bidders’ screens, with a thrilling rush of last-minute bids as the auction closed. For our team, it’s always rewarding to see the effort pay off in those final, high-energy moments – and for bidders, the chase to secure their dream lots created plenty of fun.
Joff van Reenen, Auctioneer at Creative Rides, said:
“Online auctions are about adrenaline, precision, and timing – and May Madness delivered on all three. Watching bidders from across the country and the continent lock horns in the closing seconds proves just how powerful the digital platform has become. It’s a privilege to bring the hammer down on history, passion, and collectability all at once.”
We thank all our consignors and bidders for their support, and we recommend keeping an eye out for our next Online Auction – it promises to be just as exciting!
